KontaktAs with mats, there is a flood of concepts and materials for record clamps and weights, the function and side effects of which often have to be seriously questioned. Weights that are intended to press the record flat onto the platter are the most likely to be seen as the wrong approach when dealing with the topic of mass on the drive and platter. A large mass can simply absorb much more mechanical waste energy from the scanning process, which then returns to the stylus with a time delay and "interferes" with the current scanning process. A more powerful bass is often registered as a seemingly positive effect. A real bass, however, is absolutely weightless, fast and transparent. This is particularly impressive to experience live with a symphony orchestra with eight double basses! In the mid-high frequency range, blurring effects lead to reduced resolution and transparency. With the DÄD!MAT, dynamics and timing increase significantly with mass drives, confirming the processes described above. The second aspect is the transfer of interference energy from the drive via the central axis through the metal weight or metal clamp directly into the record! Good to hear if you don't let yourself be distracted by the apparently positive effects. Just as the perfect turntable mat creates a practically insurmountable barrier for mechanical energy between the turntable and the record, the perfect record clamp is intended to achieve this between the turntable spindle and the record, which is much more difficult.
