The ear cups are chrome-plated to a high gloss and coated with PVD (physical deposition of thin hard material layers via the vapor phase) to make them wear-resistant. The elegantly designed joint holders of the ear cups have the ULTRASONE logo engraved in polished ceramic inlays. The ear pads are held securely and easily replaceably on the ear cups by magnetic force. The skin-flattering, soft, dark gray, incredibly fine leather of the ear pads comes from Ethiopian long-haired sheep. The same leather is also used to cover the padding of the headband, which is made of solid aluminum. Our ear is an extraordinarily versatile sensory organ that not only evaluates the timbre and dynamics of sound events, but also determines the direction and distance and thus the three-dimensionality of the sound via the structure of the auricle. Three-dimensional sound perception falls by the wayside with conventional headphones that direct sound directly into the ear canal. S-LOGIC® specifically involves the auricle in the perception of sound through specially decentrally placed sound transducers, thus ensuring three-dimensional hearing with headphones.
